The International Cricket Council (ICC) and JioStar had a joint statement clarifying the rumors that surrounded their broadcasting contract. The statement made it clear that JioStar will not default on the contract, and thus, negative reports were retracted.

The two parties reiterated their devotion to the four-year agreement and stressed that the entire range of the contract would be covered. This clarification was very important to avoid any changes in the broadcasting setup and the cricket coverage.

The joint statement also pointed out that the T20 World Cup is already being prepared smoothly. Both ICC and JioStar shared their determination to produce a world-class event that all will be proud of, thus implying their common vision for the success of the upcoming event.

ICC, JioStar put an end to broadcaster exit talks:

ICC and JioStar have released a joint statement, quashing all reports

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and JioStar together declared on Friday night that their rumors of withdrawal were groundless. According to the statement, JioStar will participate in the four-year broadcast deal as planned and all of its obligations under the contract will also be fulfilled. While The Economic Times reported earlier that JioStar was keen on exiting the deal, the joint announcement made it clear that the broadcaster was committed to covering the ICC tournaments.

Prior to the announcement, worries had been raised when JioStar’s expected losses from its sports contracts for 2024–25 doubled and now stand at INR 25,760 crore, up from INR 12,319 crore in the previous financial year. These changes in finances had led to concerns over a possible exit from the media rights agreement.

This joint announcement has put an end to all the rumors around the issue and confirmed JioStar’s being the broadcaster for the T20 World Cup, which is set to take place from February 7 to March 8 next year. The two sides still have a strong commitment to providing a tournament that meets international standards and quality.

“The International Cricket Council and JioStar have noted recent media reports concerning the status of the ICC’s media rights agreement in India. These reports do not reflect the position of either organisation. The existing agreement between the ICC and JioStar remains fully in force, and JioStar continues as the ICC’s official media rights partner in India. Any suggestion that JioStar has withdrawn from the agreement is incorrect,” the joint statement read.

“JIoStar is fully committed to honour its contractual obligations in letter and spirit. Both organisations remain focused on delivering uninterrupted, world-class coverage of upcoming ICC events to fans across India, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, one of the sport’s most anticipated global tournaments,” the statement added.
