Mustafizur Rahman To Miss Eight Days Of IPL 2026: Reports

Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman will not be available for the entire duration of IPL 2026, but contrary to speculation, his absence will be limited to a short period. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that Mustafizur has been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to participate in the IPL, with the understanding that he will return to national duty for a brief international assignment. This clarification comes after reports suggested that the pacer might miss a major portion of the tournament, creating uncertainty around his role for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

KKR secured Mustafizur for ₹9.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction, viewing him as a key addition to strengthen their pace attack. Known for his deceptive cutters and ability to bowl effectively at the death, the Bangladesh fast bowler was expected to play a crucial role in KKR’s campaign. The franchise can now plan accordingly, knowing that his absence will be temporary rather than prolonged.

International Commitments Behind Short Absence

The primary reason for Mustafizur’s limited unavailability is Bangladesh’s home series against New Zealand, which includes three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals. The series is scheduled around the same period as the start of IPL 2026, which is tentatively expected to begin on March 26. According to BCB officials, Mustafizur will miss only eight days of the IPL season to fulfill his national duties.

BCB cricket operations chairman Nazmul Abedin explained that Bangladesh is prioritising the ODI series as part of its long-term goal to secure direct qualification for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Improving their ODI rankings is a key objective, making the presence of senior players like Mustafizur important. Once his commitments with the national team are completed, he is expected to rejoin KKR without further delays.

Impact on KKR and Tournament Planning

From KKR’s perspective, the news provides clarity and reassurance. Missing just eight days means Mustafizur is likely to be available for the majority of the league stage and potentially the playoffs, should the team qualify. His experience in Indian conditions, gained through previous stints with Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, adds further value to his signing.

While KKR may need to manage their bowling resources carefully in the opening matches, Mustafizur’s short absence is unlikely to disrupt their overall plans. With his return scheduled early in the tournament, the franchise can still rely on him as a major weapon in their pursuit of the IPL 2026 title.
