Rajasthan Royals are facing uncertainty over hosting their home matches in Jaipur for the upcoming IPL season, with administrative issues within the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) creating complications. The Sawai Mansingh Stadium, which has traditionally served as the franchise’s home ground, is currently not a confirmed venue due to ongoing delays linked to RCA elections and internal governance matters. These unresolved issues have made it difficult for the franchise to secure timely permissions and logistical clarity required to stage IPL matches in Jaipur.
The situation has raised concerns within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which prefers venues to be finalized well in advance to ensure smooth scheduling and operations. With deadlines approaching, the uncertainty around Jaipur has forced Rajasthan Royals to look for alternative arrangements to avoid disruptions to their IPL campaign.
Pune Emerges as a Strong Alternative Venue
With Jaipur’s status in doubt, Pune has emerged as a strong contender to host Rajasthan Royals’ home fixtures. The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium is being seriously considered, as it offers world-class infrastructure, reliable facilities, and prior experience of hosting IPL matches. Officials associated with the Royals have reportedly inspected the Pune venue, including hotel availability, practice facilities, and transport arrangements, all of which meet IPL standards.
Pune’s central location and proven ability to manage large sporting events make it a practical fallback option. Additionally, the city has previously hosted IPL matches during seasons affected by logistical challenges, giving it an edge in terms of readiness and operational efficiency. While Pune is not the Royals’ traditional base, it provides a stable solution amid the ongoing uncertainty in Rajasthan.
BCCI’s Role and the Road Ahead
The final decision regarding Rajasthan Royals’ home venues rests with the BCCI, which is closely monitoring developments within the RCA. BCCI officials have emphasized the importance of administrative stability at state associations, particularly when it comes to hosting high-profile tournaments like the IPL. Unless the RCA resolves its internal issues promptly, Jaipur may miss out on hosting IPL matches this season.
For Rajasthan Royals, the priority remains ensuring uninterrupted participation in the league, even if it means playing home games away from their core fan base. While the franchise hopes for a resolution that allows a return to Jaipur in the future, contingency planning is already underway. A formal announcement on venues is expected once the BCCI completes consultations with all stakeholders and finalizes the IPL schedule.
