Virat Kohli Confirms Availability For Domestic Return

Virat Kohli’s decision to make himself available for the Vijay Hazare Trophy has generated significant excitement in domestic cricket circles. The former India captain has informed the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) about his willingness to feature in the prestigious 50-over tournament, marking a rare return to India’s domestic one-day setup.

Kohli, who has largely focused on international commitments in recent years, is expected to play a limited number of matches rather than the entire competition. His presence, even for a short stint, is seen as a major boost for Delhi’s campaign, both in terms of batting strength and the experience he brings to the squad. The move also reflects Kohli’s continued commitment to staying connected with domestic cricket whenever scheduling permits.

Rishabh Pant Named Delhi Captain

Alongside Kohli’s availability, the DDCA announced Rishabh Pant as the captain of the Delhi team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Pant, who has been working his way back to full fitness and form, will lead a side that blends youth with experience. His appointment as captain highlights the confidence the selectors have in his leadership skills and game awareness.

Ayush Badoni has been named vice-captain, signaling Delhi’s intent to groom younger leaders for the future. Pant’s leadership role is expected to be crucial in managing senior players and guiding emerging talents through the demands of a competitive domestic tournament.

Strong Squad with Senior Experience

Delhi’s squad for the initial matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy features a healthy mix of seasoned campaigners and promising youngsters. Apart from Kohli and Pant, experienced pacers like Ishant Sharma and Navdeep Saini have shown readiness to turn out for the state side. Fast bowler Harshit Rana also finds a place, adding depth to the bowling attack. However, the DDCA has clarified that senior India players are likely to be available only for a few games, as international duties loom large.

Even so, their short-term involvement is expected to raise the overall quality of competition and provide invaluable learning opportunities for younger cricketers. As Delhi prepare for the tournament starting later this month, the combination of leadership stability, star presence, and emerging talent positions them as a strong contender in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
