India’s preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup have received a major lift with several injured players closing in on full fitness. The most encouraging update surrounds Tilak Varma, who is on the verge of receiving medical clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The left-handed batter has been recovering from abdominal surgery and has been under close observation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
As per sources, Tilak is expected to join the Indian squad in Mumbai on February 3, provided he regains complete match fitness. A senior BCCI official confirmed the positive development, stating, “Tilak has been doing well in his rehab and is close to getting the green signal.” His return would significantly strengthen India’s middle order, especially given his recent consistency in the shortest format.
Mayank Yadav and Riyan Parag Close to Full Fitness
Fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who has been out of action for nearly a year due to a lower back stress fracture, is also nearing a competitive comeback. The express pacer has regained full bowling fitness and is expected to return via India A matches during the World Cup warm-up phase. The medical team is satisfied with his progress, and his pace and aggression could add a new dimension to India’s bowling attack.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Riyan Parag is also edging closer to clearance after being sidelined with a right shoulder injury. He is likely to undergo a simulation match at the Centre of Excellence, which will determine his immediate future. According to sources, “Riyan is progressing well and a clearance is expected soon if he comes through the simulation match without issues.”
Washington Sundar Still Under Assessment
While most injured players are nearing a return, Washington Sundar remains under careful evaluation. The spin-bowling all-rounder is recovering from a rib injury and has not yet participated in a full simulation game. However, the medical staff is optimistic, and his condition will be reassessed in the coming days.
With multiple players on the cusp of fitness clearance, India’s squad depth looks increasingly solid ahead of the global tournament. These timely recoveries provide the team management with more selection options and reduce concerns over last-minute replacements, giving India a strong platform heading into the T20 World Cup.
