
The Ayush Mhatre-led Indian side was accorded a rousing reception in Mumbai following their triumph at the U19 World Cup 2026. India clinched the title for a record sixth time after defeating England in the final. Upon their arrival in Mumbai after the landmark victory, the team was welcomed in a grand fashion.
A large crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the young champions, cheering enthusiastically as they made their way through the airport. Representatives from various media outlets were also present to capture the players’ immediate reactions.
Captain Ayush Mhatre was presented with a bouquet, while the squad exited under tight security alongside officials.

Batting first in the final, the India U19 side piled up a formidable 411/9. Vaibhav Suryavanshi starred with a sensational 175 off only 80 deliveries, smashing 15 boundaries and an equal number of sixes at a staggering strike rate of 218.75.
In response, England U19 were bundled out for 311 in 40.2 overs. RS Ambrish led the bowling effort with three wickets, while Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chouhan chipped in with two dismissals apiece.
Ayush Mhatre Receives Grand Reception In His Hometown
India U19 skipper Ayush Mhatre was accorded a rousing reception on his arrival in his hometown of Virar, Mumbai, Maharashtra. A huge turnout of fans gathered to celebrate the young star following India’s U19 World Cup triumph.
A roadshow was organised as Mhatre made his way through the streets in a car adorned with flower garlands and Indian flags. He was also honoured with a large garland, while fans enthusiastically captured the moment on their phones, clicking pictures and taking selfies.
With this achievement, Ayush Mhatre became India’s sixth captain to lift the U19 World Cup, joining the elite list that includes Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmukt Chand, Prithvi Shaw and Yash Dhull.

Ayush Mhatre made a key contribution in the final with 53 off 51 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. He finished the tournament with 214 runs from seven matches, averaging 30.57 with three half-centuries. India topped the Super Sixes with four wins and went on to defeat Afghanistan U19 in the semifinal in a dominant display.
