England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler set a major record during the T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Scotland national cricket team at Eden Gardens on Saturday, February 14. Despite scoring just three runs off four balls, the right-hander became the fastest player to reach 4,000 runs in T20Is, joining Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Babar Azam as the only batters to achieve this milestone.
Remarkably, Buttler required only three runs to hit the landmark. The 35-year-old completed it by taking a couple off Brad Currie in the second over of England’s run chase. According to Howstat, he reached the milestone in just 2,690 balls, the fewest among the four players.
Fewest Balls To Reach 4,000 T20I Runs:
- Jos Buttler – 2690
- Rohit Sharma – 2860
- Virat Kohli – 2900
- Babar Azam – 3081
While Rohit Sharma (4,231 runs) and Virat Kohli (4,188) have retired from T20Is, Jos Buttler ranks just behind Babar Azam (4,566) among active players in terms of T20I runs. Overall, the Gujarat Titans batter leads the four in total T20 runs, scoring 13,808 across 487 matches, with eight centuries and 98 fifties.
However, Jos Buttler has struggled to make a big impact in the T20 World Cup 2026 so far, registering scores of 26, 21, and 3 in his matches.
