India’s wicket-keepers Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan looked in fine touch during a net session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium ahead of their Super 8 fixture against Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup 2026. The Men in Blue are aiming to recover from a crushing 76-run defeat to South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The heavy loss, marked by another top-order failure as Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma struggled again, has prompted a reassessment of India’s batting combination. This has put Samson back in the selection discussion for the crucial encounter against Sikandar Raza’s side.
Samson, who was dropped after an underwhelming home T20I series against New Zealand, featured against Namibia during the tournament and scored a brisk 22 off just eight balls while opening in place of the unwell Abhishek Sharma in Delhi.
Although Kishan was dismissed for a duck against the Proteas, he remains India’s highest run-scorer in the competition. He appeared in excellent rhythm in the nets, displaying an array of strokes, including a stunning one-handed six off Arshdeep Singh.
Sanju Samson also impressed with a mix of elegance and power, finishing his session with a towering six over mid-wicket: (via ICC)

“Will Be A Talking Point” – India Coach On Sanju Samson Ahead Of IND vs ZIM Clash
Ryan ten Doeschate acknowledged that the ongoing pattern of top-order collapses may compel the team management to reassess their approach, potentially opening the door for Sanju Samson’s inclusion.
“Do you stick with the guys who we feel have performed really well over the last 18 months and who are maybe shy of a few runs now? Or do we twist and bring Sanju, who’s also a fantastic player and obviously helps tactically with having a right-hander at the top of the order, and I’m sure that’ll be a talking point over the next few days going into these two very important games,” Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate had said after the loss against South Africa.
