Veteran Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player MS Dhoni is likely to miss the first two weeks of IPL 2026, as he is recovering from a calf strain as well.

The news was confirmed by the Chennai Super Kings on the morning of the IPL 2026 opener that Dhoni is undergoing rehabilitation for a calf injury, and is likely leaving the team without their star player for the initial part of the tournament.

Notably, Chennai Super Kings’ first match is against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati as well.

MS Dhoni is the most-capped player in the history of the IPL

MS Dhoni, who turns 45 this year, is one of four wicket-keepers in the CSK squad, along with Sanju Samson (who was traded from Rajasthan Royals), Kartik Sharma, and Urvil Patel. With 278 matches, MS Dhoni is the most capped player in the history of the IPL.

Over the last few years, MS Dhoni has been playing in the IPL only. However, he has also been dealing with a knee injury, but he has been a constant presence in the CSK team, having led them to their fifth title in 2023 as well.

Meanwhile, in the first two weeks, during which MS Dhoni is likely to miss, CSK will play against Punjab Kings (home), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (away) and Delhi Capitals (home), apart from their season opener against Rajasthan Royals as well.
