Chennai Super Kings legend MS Dhoni will go through a fitness test in the next few days to decide if he can play in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 match against Delhi Capitals. The experienced wicketkeeper hasn’t played yet this season because of a calf injury he picked up before the tournament.
Earlier, the team had said that Dhoni might miss the first two weeks of the season. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also shared an update about him during the toss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
“MS is getting back slowly, sometimes it takes time, if he’s ready to play, it’ll be soon,” the skipper told Ravi Shastri at the toss.
According to a report by The Indian Express on Monday, April 6, MS Dhoni will take part in a fitness test in the next few days. If he clears it, he is likely to be included in the playing XI.
“The franchise hasn’t shown signs of rushing him back and has instead chosen to give him time to fully recover. And there is a strong likelihood that Dhoni could be in contention for the match on Saturday,” the report states.
Chennai Super Kings will take on Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 11, at MA Chidambaram Stadium, which will be their second home match of the season. MS Dhoni has been practising in the nets and batting without much discomfort, but he didn’t travel with the team for their recent away games against the Rajasthan Royals and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Chennai Super Kings hope for calm through MS Dhoni amid the turbulent IPL 2026 beginning
Chennai Super Kings have really missed MS Dhoni’s calmness, experience, and guidance on the field, as they have started their IPL 2026 campaign with three straight losses. The five-time champions are currently at the bottom of the table with a poor net run rate of -2.517. In Dhoni’s absence, Sanju Samson has handled wicketkeeping duties, while Kartik Sharma has been part of the playing XI in all three matches.
