Former India player R Ashwin applauded SunRisers Hyderabad‘s (SRH) uncapped Indian spinner, Harsh Dubey. He also said that he had wanted Rajasthan Royals (RR) to sign the youngster and brought him to the nets during his stint with the franchise as well.
However, Dubey has done a stunning job for SRH in the ongoing IPL 2026. The left-arm spinner has claimed five wickets across as many matches, which came at an economy rate of 8.66.
Speaking about his attempt to get him a deal with RR in the past, R Ashwin said in his YouTube video: “I took him to RR as a net bowler for two years. Maybe I wanted RR to pick him, but it did not happen. But I am very happy for Harsh.”
R Ashwin also shared that Dubey has been bowling very cleverly this season. He also stated that the talented Vidarbha cricketer can be handy with the bat as well.

“Harsh Dubey deserves a lot of praise. He also has the ability to bat and has a good bat swing. He will just have to work a little on it. But the way he has been bowling, it is almost like a pro. He goes full and uses the yorker at the right time, pulls the length, and adjusts the field. Donovan Ferreira hit a pull in this match. After that, he signaled something to Ishan and adjusted the field and his length. The next ball turned after pitching. This is pro-level bowling, and the kind of skill he has, I think, it’s only going to go up,” he stated.
Meanwhile, SRH captain Ishan Kishan did not keep wickets against RR, with Salil Arora doing the job behind the stumps. R Ashwin also feels that it was the right move as it allowed Ishan Kishan to have more discussions with the players, especially bowlers as well.
“I loved the fact that he gave up the gloves and was on the field, trying to talk to the bowlers. Maybe SRH would have discussed that Ishan, the captain, needs to be with the bowlers because this is a bowling attack that’s very young,” he concluded.
