South African pace bowler Lungi Ngidi suffered a nasty injury during the Delhi Capitals’ match against the Punjab Kings in IPL 2026 on Saturday. In the third over of PBKS’ 265-run chase, bowled by Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel, Ngidi landed on his head while trying to grab a catch to dismiss Priyansh Arya. However, it did not look good as Ngidi’s head hit the ground after he ran backwards to take the catch, but failed to get to grab the ball as well.

However, Ngidi stayed down in massive pain for a long period of time, with tense expressions on the faces of everyone on the field were seen as well. Medical staff rushed in, and the Delhi Capitals physio and team doctor attended to him on the ground. A stretcher was also brought out.

However, everyone was concerned about his situation. An ambulance was called onto the field, while the physio and team doctor checked on him on the field as well. Moreover, the match was halted for over 15 minutes as well.

Although Lungi Ngidi could communicate with the medical staff via hand gestures, he was unable to move his neck and head as well. A neck brace was carefully put under his head before he was strapped onto the stretcher as well. Ricky Ponting, head coach of Punjab Kings, also came into the middle to check on the pacer.

However, the South African pacer was eventually stretchered into the ambulance and was taken to Max Hospital in Karol Bagh for further assessment and immediate treatment as well.
