The Gujarat Titans camp faced a frightening moment after the IPL 2026 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru when their team bus caught fire while returning from the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Led by Shubman Gill, GT had earlier suffered a five-wicket defeat in the title clash as Rajat Patidar’s RCB successfully defended their crown.
As per a report by the Times of India, a short circuit triggered the fire, leaving the players stranded on the roadside for nearly an hour. The team and staff were evacuated promptly, and fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Gujarat Titans have faced a series of travel and scheduling challenges in recent days. The team played three successive playoff matches at three different venues and had just a single day to prepare for the final. After defeating Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 at Mullanpur on May 29, they immediately travelled to Ahmedabad for the IPL 2026 final on May 31.
Their journey to Ahmedabad was further disrupted when their flight from Chandigarh was delayed due to adverse weather conditions, resulting in the squad arriving late on Saturday. According to reports, the delay also forced organisers to postpone the traditional captains’ photoshoot with the IPL trophy ahead of the summit clash.
“We Bounced Back After Early Setbacks”: Shubman Gill Reflects on GT’s IPL 2026 Campaign Following Final Defeat to RCB
Gujarat Titans were thoroughly outclassed in the IPL 2026 final after being asked to bat first by RCB skipper Rajat Patidar. Their top order struggled and lost wickets early, putting the team under pressure. A fighting half-century from Washington Sundar helped GT recover and post a respectable total, but it ultimately proved insufficient against RCB’s powerful batting lineup.
Despite a brief hiccup during the chase, RCB comfortably reached the target to secure the title.
“I think we were one of the best bowling sides in the tournament. The way after we lost the first two games – we came back in the tournament after losing the first couple of games – the way we kept talking, kept pushing ourselves, kept challenging ourselves in different areas, and kept improving those 5 percent factors,” Shubman Gill said during the post-match presentation.
“We couldn’t get over the line, but there are always things that you could improve on. And even if we had won the trophy, there were still things that we felt as a group that we needed to work on,” he added.
