India secured an unbeatable 2–0 lead in the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan after a dominant 170-run victory in the second One Day International at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
After Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bowl first, India’s batting unit responded with an aggressive performance and kept the scoreboard moving at a strong pace throughout the innings. Despite losing an early wicket, opener Rohit Sharma gave India a flying start by scoring a quick 48 runs from just 39 balls.
His attacking approach helped India build early momentum before his dismissal. After Rohit’s departure, captain Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan took full control of the innings with a massive 224-run partnership for the third wicket.
Gill played a calm yet powerful knock, scoring an excellent 154 runs off 110 deliveries, including 22 boundaries and two sixes. At the other end, Kishan played with great intent and attacked the bowlers regularly. He reached his century in style and finished with a brilliant 125 runs off only 79 balls, smashing 14 fours and seven sixes.
Although India suffered a late collapse due to disciplined bowling from Afghanistan, especially Nangeyalia Kharote, who took 4 wickets, and Rashid Khan, who claimed 3 wickets, the hosts still posted a huge total of 402 before being bowled out in 49.5 overs.

India Tighten Grip as Afghanistan Struggle in Run Chase
Chasing a difficult target of 403, Afghanistan found it hard to maintain the required scoring rate. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a quick 41, while Sediqullah Atal contributed 42 runs from 50 balls. However, regular wickets made the chase tougher.
Middle-order batter Rahmat Shah showed resistance with a fighting 79 off 89 balls, but he received little support from the other batters. India’s bowling attack stayed disciplined and kept pressure on the visitors with timely breakthroughs.
Arshdeep Singh bowled brilliantly and returned with figures of 3/45, while young pacer Gurnoor Brar continued his impressive form by taking 3/60. Debutant Prince Yadav dismissed Rahmat Shah to end the contest, as Afghanistan were bowled out for 232 in 44.3 overs. Gill was deservedly named Player of the Match for his match-winning century.
