Team India Raises Concerns Over Belfast Practice Facilities Ahead of 1st T20I vs Ireland

Team India’s brief preparation in Belfast for the two-match T20I series against Ireland was disrupted by inadequate facilities at the venue. During their practice session ahead of the first match, the squad faced issues mainly because of a malfunctioning sight screen.

As per a report by NDTV, India captain Shreyas Iyer raised concerns about the facilities with head coach Gautam Gambhir, who then escalated the matter to the logistics manager. Cricket Ireland was also informed, and the issue was reportedly fixed during the training session.

“The Indian team management was left unimpressed after discovering that one of the practice strips did not have a sightscreen positioned behind the bowler’s arm, making it difficult for batters to pick up the ball against the backdrop.”

“Yes, there have been some issues with the practice facilities, but the Indian team’s support staff have brought this to the notice of Irish officials,” a BCCI source stated.

Team India have had limited time to gear up for their tour of Ireland and England, with most players only recently finishing the home series against Afghanistan national cricket team. The squad arrived in separate groups before coming together for a training session on June 25.

The visitors are set to begin their campaign in Belfast, marking their first match in Northern Ireland. On previous tours of Ireland, matches were usually held at The Village in Dublin.

Team India Maintain Perfect Record Against Ireland

India have dominated their T20I meetings against Ireland cricket team, winning all eight encounters since their first clash at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In recent years, India have also made several trips to Ireland, securing 2-0 series victories on three consecutive tours.

Their latest meeting came in the opening phase of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in New York City, where the Rohit Sharma-led side began their championship-winning run with a commanding eight-wicket victory.
