Fans Left Disappointed As Vaibhav Suryavanshi Misses Debut In IND vs IRE 1st T20I 2026

Despite the massive excitement surrounding teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the youngster did not receive his debut cap in the first T20I against Ireland on Friday, June 26, in Belfast. India are currently playing a two-match T20I series in Ireland before traveling to England for their next assignment.

After receiving his maiden national call-up, many expected Vaibhav Suryavanshi to make his international debut in the opening T20I against Ireland. However, the 15-year-old will have to wait a little longer for his opportunity.

During the toss, captain Shreyas Iyer explained that several players have performed impressively in recent matches, including during the 2026 T20 World Cup, which influenced the team management’s decision to continue backing them.

The decision, however, left many fans disappointed, as they had eagerly anticipated seeing the young left-hander in action. Supporters quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions and express their frustration.

India retained their opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson for the match. Ishan Kishan continued at number three, while captain Shreyas Iyer slotted in at number four and Tilak Varma took the fifth position.

Shivam Dube batted at number six, followed by all-rounders Axar Patel and Washington Sundar at seven and eight respectively. India also opted for a three-man pace attack comprising Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Has Been in Exceptional Form Recently

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has entered the Ireland series in outstanding form, and India will be keen to make the most of his momentum. It now remains to be seen whether the young batter gets an opportunity to make his international debut in the second T20I on Sunday, June 28.

The 15-year-old delivered a sensational knock of 94 off just 29 balls in the final of the Tri-Nation series against Sri Lanka A. He also dominated some of the best bowlers in world cricket during the recently concluded IPL 2026, where he claimed the Orange Cap.

In only his second IPL season, he amassed 776 runs in 16 matches at an average of 48.50 and an extraordinary strike rate of 237.30, registering one century and five fifties. With India scheduled to play a five-match T20I series in England following the Ireland tour, Vaibhav is expected to receive his opportunity sooner rather than later.
