Former India player turned commentator Aakash Chopra has questioned aggressive India batter Rinku Singh’s exclusion from the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, which starts later this month. On Saturday, June 6, the BCCI announced a 16-member squad for both series, where Rinku failed to get a place.
Reacting to this in a video on his YouTube channel (Aakash Chopra), he said, “Everyone has forgotten him (Rinku Singh). No one is even talking about Rinku anymore. In all this chaos of selection, everyone has forgotten him. Our reliable and responsible Rinku is no longer there in that team. Honestly speaking, what wrong did he even do? I still don’t know. Maybe even Rinku doesn’t know. I’m sure the selectors must have had a conversation with him like, Brother, we had expectations from you at this time, and you haven’t been able to deliver that. But how many chances did he really get, man?”
However, Aakash Chopra also added that he feels sorry for Rinku Singh, stating that he had a good IPL 2026 season and is a reliable fielder, yet he has to face the axe.
He said: “I mean, I feel a little sad for Rinku. Even now, if you look at it, his performances in the IPL weren’t bad at all. It was quite acceptable. Considering how well he has done, he is a good fielder, a pressure player with the bat. Again, he was part of a World Cup-winning team, he won the Asia Cup final with that four, and then suddenly he is out of favour. Very interesting.”
