In the second T20I match of the five-match series at Old Trafford, Manchester, England defeated India by four wickets. After the series opener was washed out due to rain, this victory handed the hosts a crucial 1-0 advantage in the series. Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, the Indian cricket team posted a competitive total of 190/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Young debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showed intent early on by hitting two sixes before being stumped off the bowling of Will Jacks. Opener Abhishek Sharma provided a brisk start, scoring 43 runs off 24 deliveries, which included eight boundaries and a six.

Following his dismissal by Sam Curran, captain Shreyas Iyer and wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan built a stable 65-run partnership for the third wicket. Iyer contributed 37 runs off 22 balls, while Kishan top-scored with a well-compiled 49 runs off 40 deliveries.

Sam Curran was the pick of the English bowlers, halting India’s momentum by taking three wickets for 33 runs. A quick unbeaten cameo of 24 runs from 11 balls by Tilak Varma pushed India to their final score of 190. Here are some twitter reactions:

In response, England’s chase began with severe setbacks as Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh dismissed openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler for ducks in the opening over. However, England captain Harry Brook restored momentum with an aggressive 39 off 15 balls.

Although Axar Patel dismissed Brook to claim his historic 100th T20I wicket, England stayed on course through a 67-run partnership between Tom Banton (39 runs) and Jacob Bethell. The turning point came in the 17th over when Bethell targeted the Indian spin attack.

Bethell played a match-winning innings of 76 not out from 46 deliveries, smashing five boundaries and five sixes. His explosive batting ensured that England reached 191/6 in 19 overs, sealing the victory with six balls to spare. Bethell was rightfully named the Player of the Match for his decisive performance.
