Vaibhav Suryavanshi said he was “overwhelmed” by the messages and wishes he received after making his historic India debut on Saturday. At 15 years and 99 days old, he became the youngest cricketer to play for India, breaking the long-standing record of Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut at 16 years and 205 days.
The young batter made a bright start to his international career, hitting two sixes before being stumped for 14 runs.
“Overwhelmed by all the messages,” Sooryavanshi posted on his Instagram stories. “Thank you to everyone of my well-wishers and seniors for your constant love and support. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to represent my country, and I’ll always try to give my best for my team every single time. Thank you for everything, everyone.”
Earlier, the opening batter shared an Instagram post, saying he was living his dream after receiving his first India cap.
“Living a dream we all saw together. Thank you to everyone who continues to support me and stand by me through my ups and downs. Grateful,” he wrote.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Record IPL Season Earns India Call-Up
Vaibhav Suryavanshi received his first India call-up after an outstanding IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 776 runs to win the Orange Cap. In doing so, he became the youngest player to claim the award, surpassing the previous record held by Sai Sudharsan.
Despite his impressive form, the teenager did not get a game during India’s two-match T20I series in Ireland, which the visitors lost 0-2. Even as calls for his debut grew louder, the team management continued to back the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson.
However, after Samson recorded another low score in the first T20I at Chester-le-Street, his fourth successive failure, India brought Sooryavanshi into the playing XI for the second match, with the wicketkeeper-batter making way. Despite the change, India suffered a four-wicket defeat as England took a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series.
