Tilak Varma impressed with both bat and ball in the second T20I between Zimbabwe and India. After India posted a massive total of 219/5, the 23-year-old made an impact with the ball as the visitors dominated the hosts. Tilak came on to bowl in the 12th over of Zimbabwe’s chase and struck on just his second delivery.

Ryan Burl was dismissed for 20 runs off 18 balls as Zimbabwe slipped to 82/6. They were eventually bowled out for 129 in 17.5 overs. Tilak Varma bowled just one over, gave away only nine runs, and picked up one wicket. It was his fifth wicket in T20I cricket.

Tilak Varma Stars With the Bat in the First Innings

Before making an impact with the ball, Tilak Varma starred with the bat in the first innings. He played an important role in helping India cross the 200-run mark and post a match-winning total. Batting at No. 5, the left-hander brought up his ninth T20I half-century in just 23 balls.

He stayed unbeaten on 60 off 29 deliveries at an impressive strike rate of 206.90. His innings included five fours and three sixes, and he also shared a crucial 94-run stand in just 43 balls with Ishan Kishan. Tilak had faced criticism for batting too slowly and had an ordinary series in England, where he scored 104 runs in five matches at an average of 26 and a strike rate of 152.94.

Although he didn’t get much time to bat in the first T20I, coming in late, he bounced back brilliantly in the second match with a match-winning knock under pressure. His innings helped India seal the series after back-to-back series defeats against Ireland and England.
