MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have undoubtedly been the two standout captains in IPL history. Between them, the duo has 7 IPL titles in 12 years. Rohit has led MI to the most 4 IPL titles whereas under Dhoni CSK has lifted the IPL 3 times.

Often when anyone judges who have been the best IPL captain, ultimately the debate comes down to Dhoni and Rohit. Recently three popular voices in cricket today, Aakash Chopra, Sanjay Manjrekar and Ajit Agarkar had the difficult task of picking the better IPL captain between Rohit and Dhoni.

In an interview, the panel had an interesting discussion when picking the better captain between the two Indian stalwarts. Chopra without any scepticism picked the consistent Dhoni ahead of Rohit.

“Dhoni has been able to pull off more than the others have,” Chopra was quoted as saying on ESPNcricinfo.

As far as Manjrekar is concerned he thinks at this stage Dhoni is marginally ahead as a skipper in IPL but Rohit is giving a stiff challenge to him. Whereas Ajit Agarkar decided to sit in on the fence and lauded both the captains and rated them equally.

“Rohit is like a challenger to Dhoni when it comes to the IPL”, said Manjrekar.

“Both Rohit and Dhoni have had good teams to lead,” Agarkar said.

Meanwhile, Dhoni has been the captain of CSK since the inception of the IPL is 2008. Under him, CSK has been the most consistent side in the biggest T20 league as they have reached the most playoffs in IPL history.

On the other hand, Rohit was handed the captaincy of his IPL franchise only in 2013. Since then he has dominated the IPL as captain as he has led MI to 4 IPL titles. He has 60 wins from a total of 105 matches as captain. However, MSD’s win-percentage of 60.34 is still higher than that of Rohit’s 58.09.
