Royal Challengers Bangalore played Delhi Capitals in Dubai on Monday night, October 5. It turned out to be a one-sided encounter at the end as Delhi registered victory by a big margin against their opponents. Doing so, they reclaim the top spot in the points table with eight points from five games.

Meanwhile, one moment from Virat Kohli became the moment of the match. It also highlighted his awareness of the rules of the game and that he respects them to the core. In the second over of the Delhi Capitals innings, Virat Kohli was fielding at covers.

Virat Kohli refrains from using saliva

Prithvi Shaw creamed one to him off the bowling of Navdeep Saini. He fielded the ball and was just about to put saliva to the ball, which is normally what fielders did before the COVID-19 era. However, he was quick to refrain from his action and put his hand up apologising for the same as well. You can watch the video below.

Virat Kohli’s reaction was quickly noticed by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. He took to Twitter to praise the youngster for his shot. The batting legend justified Virat Kohli’s actions saying that sometimes as a fielder it is your instincts which take over when you are in the motion of your game.

Under the new rules laid out by the ICC, putting saliva on the ball is banned from international cricket and also in franchise-based T20 leagues as well since the outbreak of coronavirus world over.

Previously in the KKR vs RR encounter, match 12 of IPL 2020, Robin Uthappa was seen putting saliva to the ball after he dropped Sunil Narine.

Meanwhile, RCB lost to Delhi Capitals by 59 runs chasing a mammoth total of 197 to win. They scored 137/9 as Delhi won their fourth game of the tournament. In the process, the Shreyas Iyer-led side reclaimed the top spot in the points table.

Virat Kohli scored 43 with the bat as he ran out of partners in the chase. He fell to Kagiso Rabada who took 4 for 24 in his spell. AB de Villiers (9) and Aaron Finch despite getting three chances in his innings scored 13. The young and promising Devdutt Padikkal had a rare failure with the bat for RCB.
