As per reports in The Hindu, IPL 2021 will have a full auction before the start of the season and will include nine teams. According to a BCCI official, the reason for the full auction is because of the inclusion of the ninth team into the fold. An informal information about the auction has been made to all the franchises. The official announcement of the same will come out in due course.
IPL 2021 To Have Full Auction As Per BCCI
The BCCI is planning the auction with an aim to bring back the IPL back to India next year. The outbreak of COVID-19, prevented the country from hosting the event this year. However, the BCCI believes that they can host the next season in India itself. The full auction will also be held to strike a balance in the financial aspects of the tournament, after the aftermath of this pandemic year.

The ninth franchise is likely to be based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The state is in the process of rebuilding the Motera stadium as the largest stadium in the world with a capacity of 1,10,000 people.
Meanwhile, should the BCCI office-bearers keep their position, the board will send a tender to the Supreme Court in order to get a new corporate giant sanctioned for the new franchise.
The IPL has eight teams at the moment. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab make up the eight sides.
Mumbai Indians bagged their fifth IPL title by beating first-time finalists Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 final.

“We haven’t decided anything yet. Let this season conclude, we will take a call,” BCCI president Ganguly was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times on being asked about player auction next year.
