Delhi Capitals won the toss in the big final and elected to bat first. They were jolted in the very first over with Marcus Stoinis dismissed in the very first over by Trent Boult. Shikhar Dhawan, too was dismissed early for 15, followed by Ajinkya Rahane soon. Shreyas Iyer (65) and Rishabh Pant (56) scored fifties and it was largely due to their 96-run partnership that helped Delhi get to 156.

In reply, Rohit Sharma scored 68 off 51 balls to anchor the Mumbai chase. His opening stand of 45 runs with Quinton De Kock ( 20 off 12) set the pace for Mumbai in the chase and Ishan Kishan (33 off 19) finished the game off for Mumbai and leading them to their fifth IPL title.

There was not enough runs on the board put by DC which made the job difficult for the bowlers to defend the title. Meanwhile, it was a seamless performance from Mumbai Indians, who looked in complete control in the game.

“I’m quite happy with how things went the whole season. We said at the start that we need the winning habit. We couldn’t have asked for anything more, right on the money from ball 1 and we never looked back. I think a lot of credit goes to the people who worked behind the scenes – often they go unnoticed. Our work started long before the IPL started, and we wanted to make sure we filled the gaps in previous seasons” said Rohit Sharma after lifting his fifth IPL title as MI skipper.
