It was another day dominated by the Indian team to post 622 runs for 9 declare before dismissing the 2 Sri Lankan openers. The Indian team got off to a poor start losing the wicket of Pujara by Karunanthe. Ravichandran Ashwin looked solid with his technique while Saha played positively. At lunch, India were 442 for 5.
After the lunch interval, Ravichandran Ashwin completed his 11th test fifty before being dismissed by Herath for 54. Hardik Pandya played a quick fire knock of 20 in 20 balls. He tried to hit a big shot and was caught by Angelo Mathews. Wriddhiman Saha and Ravindra Jadeja piled the misery on the Sri Lankan bowlers. Saha completed his half century off 113 balls. At the tea break, India was in a strong position with 553 for 7.
After the tea break, both of them added 72 runs for the 8th wicket before Saha was dismissed for 67. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja added quick runs. The left handed batsmen completed his fifty in 70 balls. Jadeja remained not out on 70 as India declared on 622 for 9.
The Sri Lankan team lost an unfortunate wicket of Tharanga for 0 by Ashwin. Kusal Mendis and Karunanthe struggled against the Indian spinners. Both the batsmen added 33 runs for the second wicket. The left handed batsman was dismissed 25. The 3rd wicket partnership of Chandimal and Mendis are not out. Sri Lanka is 50 for 2 still trail India by 572. They need to bat well on turning pitch.
