Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis added 123 runs for the 4th wicket before Amla was dismissed by Moeen Ali which resulted in a big collapse from 163 for 4 to 202 runs all out. Ali picked 5 wickets in the innings. It was a great effort by the hosts who outplayed South Africa in all departments.

England started the test series on a positive by beating South Africa in the first test at Lord’s by 211 runs. The visitors came back strongly with 340 runs win at Trent Bridge. England won by 239 runs at Kennington Oval, London to take a 2-1 lead. In the final test match, hosts continued their aggressive approach defeating South Africa by 177 runs to seal the series 3-1.
India is currently at the top of ICC test team rankings with 123 points. They have a 2-0 lead in the ongoing test series against Sri Lanka. If they win the third Test at Kandy, then the gap between India and South Africa will be big. Despite losing the series, South Africa are second.
England has moved to third in the rankings. They have a chance to move to the second position by defeating West Indies. Australia also has a chance to move up with the upcoming test series against Bangladesh.
