Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson has achieved career-best rankings in Test cricket after his double century in the first Test against Indies. He scored his career-best 251 at Seddon Park in Wellington. he has thus joined Indian skipper Virat Kohli at number two in the ICC Test rankings. With his recent performance, Williamson gained 74 points, moving from 812 to 886. There have been a few more changes to the rankings after the result of the match.
Williamson’s teammate Tom Latham has achieved his career-best Test rankings as well. He is placed tenth after his innings of 86. Latham is on 733 rating points with Australia’s Steve Smith topping the table with 911 rating points.

West Indies batsman Jermaine Blackwood, who scored his second Test century at the Seddon Park, has now moved up by 17 places to 41st, his best position since reaching 40th in August 2017.
In the bowler’s rankings, Neil Wagner has edged Stuart Broad to the second spot with 849 points as opposed to Broad’s 845. Aussie Speedster Pat Cummins is leading the table with 904 points.

Kane Williamson Stars in Record New Zealand WIN
Meanwhile, New Zealand won the first Test against West Indies by a record margin of an innings and 134 runs. This is their best win against the Windies in Tests surpassing their previous best of innings and 105-run win at Wellington’s Basin Reserve in 1999. The hosts thus take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson was the architect of this victory with his knock of 251.
The Kiwis scored 519 for 7 batting first on the back of Kane Williamson’s 251. There were contributions from Tom Latham (86) Kylie Jamieson (51) and Ross Taylor (38) as well.
In reply, the Windies were bowled out for 139 in the first innings. They were asked to follow on and were 89 for 6 with the fall of Jason Holder in the 22nd over.
“We were fortunate to get off to a good start and to be able hold that position. Coming into today we knew the West Indies batted deep and they showed that. It was great the guys stuck with it” New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said.
