India skipper Virat Kohli was given an early life on Day 1 of the Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide. This happened after India won the toss and opted to bat first. India lost the wicket of Prithvi Shaw in the very first over of the test match. Soon they lost Mayank Agarwal as well. Then it was Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara who batted together and added key runs in from the first session till tea.
Meanwhile, the incident happened just after the start of the second session post-lunch in the 36th over of the day. Nathan Lyon was bowling to Virat Kohli. A delivery from him drifted down the leg side and took Kohli’s glove on the way while Paine completed the catch. The ball was kept by wicket-keeper Tim Paine behind the stumps and there was an immediate appeal from the close-in fielders as they believed the ball had taken the edge of the bat.

Virat Kohli Survives A DRS Call
The onfield umpires turned down the appeal. After a lengthy conversation with Matthew Wade who was standing at short-leg, Paine decided to not go for the DRS.

The hotspot replay showed that the might have taken the faintest of edges from Kohli’s bat and there was a possibility of him being given out if Paine had gone to the third umpire. Kohli was batting on 16 at that point in his innings.

For once Virat Kohli was lucky of surviving a close DRS call. He and Pujara added 68 runs before Pujara was dismissed by Lyon just at the stroke of tea. India at tea were 107 for 3 with Ajinkya Rahane having just joined his skipper at the wicket. A total of 55 overs of the day’s play was complete.
