The all-rounder from South Africa, Jean-Paul Duminy has taken a call to hang his boots from the test and first-class cricket with immediate effect, though he will continue to play the shorter format of the game. Duminy has represented South Africa in 46 test matches and has played 108 first-class matches.

Duminy has been one of the most experienced players for the Proteas in recent times after making his test debut against Australia back in 2008. Duminy struck a beautiful half-century on a seaming Perth pitch in his debut match and followed it up with a magnificent 166 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.  JP took the call for retiring after a thorough discussion and expressed that he was privileged enough to represent South Africa in the longer version of the game.

While talking to Independent Media after his announcement, the 33-year-old cricketer said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed the privilege and opportunity to represent my country in 46 Tests and the Cape Cobras in 108 first-class matches over the last 16 years. But after a long and careful deliberation, I have decided to retire from first-class and Test-match cricket with immediate effect.”

“I certainly know that my playing career is far from over, and my hope is that with the backing of Cricket South Africa, the WSB Cape Cobras, teammates, family, friends and supporters, I will be given the opportunity to continue to give my very best to the sport that I love dearly,” the southpaw added.

However, the left-handed batsman will continue to play the limited overs cricket for the Proteas and the Cobras. He will also be seen leading the Cape Town Knight Riders in the inaugural Global T20 league.

Last time Duminy graced the cricket field for a test match was earlier this when South Africa took on England at Lords earlier this year losing the match by 211 runsJP Duminy
