Team India has received a huge blow as Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled of the Border-Gavaskar trophy. The star Indian all-rounder coped a nasty blow on his thumb courtesy off a fierce Mitchell Starc bouncer. Jadeja tried taking his top hand quickly off the bat but was unable to do so as the ball smacked him on this thumb.
Jadeja didn’t come to the field and was immediately taken for scans which revealed he has sustained a fracture. Now as per news agency PTI, Jadeja dislocated and fractured his thumb which is why he will take no further part in the Test series against Australia.
Ravindra Jadeja suffers a thumb fracture
As per a BCCI source, Jadeja is likely to be out of action for 6 weeks which also means he will miss the first two Tests against England at home. This is a body blow for team India as Jadeja brought the right balance to the squad as he contributed with both bat, ball and was even a live wire in the field.
“Ravindra Jadeja has suffered a dislocation and fracture on his left thumb. It will be very difficult for him to wear those gloves and bat”, a senior BCCI source was quoted as saying by BCCI.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant who was also struck on his arm will be available to bat in the second innings. The injury of Pant looked serious but the scans have indicated that the wicket-keeper batsman will have a bat when India needs him in the final innings of the third Test match.

“In any case, he will be out of action for at least two to three weeks which rules him out of the final Test. Pant will be able to bat as his injury isn’t that serious”, the source added.
Meanwhile, India will certainly miss Jadeja as he picked 4 wickets in the first innings and also scored vital runs towards the end. On top of that his stunning run-out to dismiss Steve Smith is still probably the highlight of the Test match. The management will be hoping that Jadeja gets fully fit for the big cricketing season ahead in 2021.
