The India vs England 2021 Series will be played at three venues as per a report in ESPN Cricinfo. This series will also bring cricket back after a gap of more than 10 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The IPL 2020 was held outside the country as the number of cases were on the rise during that particular period. The BCCI has announced the three venues where the Tests, ODIs and T20I series will be hosted.
England will tour India between February 5 to March 28 for four Tests, five T20Is and three ODIs. Chennai will host the first two Tests. The third Test in Ahmedabad will be a day-night Test match between both teams. The final two Tests will be played at the newly built stadium in Ahmedabad. It has a crowd capacity of 110,000 spectators, making it the biggest-capacity cricket ground in the world. The last international game played at that venue was back in November 2014. The Test series will be a part of the ongoing World Test Championship played among the top nine teams.

Ahmedabad will also host all of the five T20Is as it will be played under a bio-bubble. It is currently unclear whether the matches will be played behind closed doors, or with fans allowed in. After the T20Is, the ODI leg of the series will be played in Pune. All three matches will be played in Pune in another bio-bubble environment.
As per reports in ESPN Cricinfo, Mohali was thought as a potential option for the Test series. However, the board finalised on Chennai because of its close proximity with Sri Lanka. England are currently in Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series which is played out in Galle behind closed doors.
In a media release, the BCCI said they had “restricted” the England tour to just three venues as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The BCCI prioritises the health and safety of both teams and will leave no stone unturned to make sure that the tour is held adhering to all safety protocols agreed by the BCCI and ECB medical teams,” Shah said.
