The Ranveer Singh starrer much anticipated ’83’, based on Team India’s epic 1983 world cup win is all set to hit the theatres on June 4, 2021. Ranveer Singh will be essaying the role of then India captain Kapil Dev who against all odds led India to their maiden Cricket world cup title.
The 1983 world cup was held in England and nobody gave India even the slightest chance to win it under the leadership of Kapil Dev. However, the Indian captain always believed in his young side and always brought the best out of his team members. Under the inspired leadership of Kapil Dev, team India kept taking giant steps and eventually ended up winning the 1983 world cup against the formidable West Indies side.

The 1983 world cup triumph completely changed the landscape of Indian cricket and still to date is widely recognised as one of the greatest achievements in cricket. Now an entire movie based on the historic triumph will be released in June this year in which Ranveer Singh will essay the role of the legendary Kapil Dev.
Ranveer Singh on his official Instagram account updated all his fans about the new release date of ‘83’. Interestingly the project was announced in 2017 with the movie scheduled to release in April 2020. However, the makers had to shift the date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As per the latest SOPs, the theatres across the country can operate with 100% capacity.

Meanwhile, the entire cast of 83 trained under the supervision of many Indian players along with Kapil Dev who was part of the 1983 world cup winning team. The makers made the picturesque HPCA Dharamshala stadium the base for all the actors to perfect all their cricketing skills so that they look like professional cricketers on the silver screen.
Furthermore, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer’s wife, will essay the role of Romi Bhatia, Kapil’s wife. Chirag Patil will portray the role of his father Sandeep Patil. Hardy Sandhu will be seen as Madan Lal while Boman Irani will play the role of Farokh Engineer
