Virender Sehwag Credits Prithvi Shaw For His Matchwinning Knock Against KKR

Prithvi Shaw scored a 41-ball 82 as Delhi Capitals completed a fairly one-side win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday. This win takes them to the third position in the points table while KKR is still placed fifth. DC, CSK and RCB are the three teams with 10 points at the moment in the competition. Meanwhile, Shaw hit 24 off the first over from Shivam Mavi hitting six back to back fours to get his innings started.

His feat left former Indian opener Virender Sehwag impressed who had the habit of starting his innings with a four in his playing days. In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Sehwag admitted that even he used to think of smashing all the six balls when he opened the innings in his playing days but could never do what Prithvi did against KKR.

Sehwag further said that Prithvi Shaw should have got his hundred and that he has come a long way after going through a rough patch.

“It would have been more exciting if he had got a hundred. He has gone through tough times already. But now, when the runs were coming, he must have scored a hundred or remained unbeaten and finished the chase,” Sehwag concluded.

Virender Sehwag further said that Prithvi Shaw bettered him in the way that he scored 24 off the first over while Sehwag himself could not achieve this feat in his career. Shaw is only the second batsman after his teammate Ajinkya Rahane to do so in the history of the league.

Virender Sehwag Hails Prithvi Shaw’s Timing

“Smashing six boundaries off all the six balls means playing every ball through the perfect gap, which is not easy. I’ve opened in my career and had thought of smashing all the six balls so many times. But I got a maximum of 18 or 20 odd runs. I couldn’t hit six boundaries or six sixes. For that you need to be perfect on your timing so that you can find those gaps,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

While Delhi Capitals look good for a top-two finish, KKR must make a quick turnaround in the final seven games to give themselves the best chance of making it to the playoffs. They have seven games remaining with the team already in a must-win situation.
