Dashing Indian opener Smriti Mandhana in a recent interview to bcci.tv shared her favorite moments of the game and the improvisations implemented by her after the ICC Women”s world cup.
Smriti who played a vital role in the series wins against SA at their home, is looking forward to playing against England and Australia at home.
Smriti said that she had changed her stance a little bit and that helped her to play better and longer after the women”s world cup 2017.”I went back to my coach and worked on my stance that suits my batting style and I am now comfortable with the open stance”
When asked about her favorite shot, she mentioned that cover drive is her favorite one. She said “As a batsman, everyone likes Cover drive. I would like to play some 300-400 of them. But to work on other shots, I have been using the back foot technique to aid them. I have batted in many batting friendly conditions and that”s helping me to work on different shots. .”
Smriti who played well in the initial phases of Women”s world cup couldn”t provide the same consistency towards the end. Speaking on this she said” People keep expecting from you after few good performances. I actually don”t feel the pressure of people. I am playing for India. So I make sure to contribute better for India to win the matches.”
She also mentioned that every member of the team has been working hard on their techniques as well as their fitness levels.
When asked about her mindset she said she never sets any targets before she walks out to bat and this made her bat freely without pressure.
Smriti also rated her performance in the recently concluded SA tour. Though she had mentioned it “dissatisfying”, she admitted the fact that she had timed the ball well.
We wish Smriti to have a good outing in the home series against Australia.
