In the first session of the first test match between India and England played at Edgbaston started today, the England captain Joe Root won the toss and decided to bat first. Cook and Jennings begin the innings on a good note.
The Indian captain Kohli bought on Ravichandran Ashwin in the 7th over itself. In his next over, he bowled a beautiful off-spin delivery which turned a little that Cook did not read and was clean bowled. Cook was dismissed for 13 runs. Both Cook and Jennings added 26 runs for the opening wicket.
Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Cook for the 8th time in his test career. It was a dream ball by Ashwin which gave the important breakthrough for the Indian team. For the first test match, KL Rahul was bought in for Pujara while Shami, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma were included as three specialist’s fast bowlers.
Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a consistent line and lengths troubling Jennings also. He bowled 7 overs and gave away just 13 runs picking the only wicket. England went into lunch with the score of 83 for 1.
When England toured for 5 test match series in 2016 to India, R Ashwin troubled Cook with his deliveries. Ishant Sharma also bowled well troubling the England openers Cook and Jennings. Root and Jennings steadied the innings with a solid partnership for the 2nd wicket.
Ravichandran Ashwin needs to play a big role in the next two sessions to control the run flow and also take wickets. Ashwin is the only spinner included for a first test match. India has gone with 3 pace bowlers, Hardik Pandya and R Ashwin as all-rounders.

Umesh Yadav was not at his best giving away runs with the new ball. Mohammed Shami also bowled well and troubled Root and Jennings.
