Watch: Ravindra Jadeja Thanks Skipper Rohit Sharma For Promoting Him In The Batting Order

In the 2nd T20I of the ongoing India vs Sri Lanka series, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja walked in to bat at number five, ahead of Venkatesh Iyer and Deepak Hooda. Making full use of the opportunity, Jadeja blasted an 18-ball 45 to help his team chase down the target of 184-runs with ease.

Jadeja looked in great touch, as he and Shreyas Iyer (74*) put up an outstanding batting display. The southpaw smashed seven fours and one six in his quickfire knock. Jadeja was satisfied with his performance and after the game, thanked skipper Rohit Sharma for believing in his batting ability. Even in the first game at Lucknow, Jadeja was sent to bat ahead of Sanju Samson at number 4.

“I would like to thank Rohit because he trusted me and believed in me that I can score runs for my team. Hopefully, whenever I get an opportunity in the future, I’ll try and give my best, play according to the situation, and win the game for my team.” said Jadeja at the Post-Match Press Conference.

We are very clear with what we want to achieve with Jadeja in white ball cricket: Rohit Sharma

Meanwhile Rohit Sharma himself had hinted after the first T20I that Ravindra Jadeja would bat higher up the order more frequently from now on. He remarked that the squad expects more from ‘Jadeja:The Batter’ and hence he would be given ample opportunities to spend time in the middle.

“We want more from him [Jadeja], that is why we asked him to bat higher. You will see this happening more and more in the games that he plays for India. I want him to bat up the order more.”, Rohit had stated at the post-match presentation of first game.
