Chennai Super Kings have signed a young talent from Sri Lanka, Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement for the Kiwi right-arm fast bowler Adam Milne. The 30-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in CSK’s opening match against KKR and will be unavailable for the remaining IPL.
Milne was bought by CSK for INR 1.90 crore, through the IPL mega auction 2022. He could play only a match. The Kiwi pace gun bowled 2.3 overs in the match and conceded 19 runs.
On the other hand, Pathirana has represented his national side in two Under-19 World Cups, 2020 and 2022. CSK has signed the right-hand medium pacer for INR 20 lakh. The 19-year-old took 7 wickets in 4 matches of his 2022 Under 19 World Cup campaign. Pathirana has the experience of two Sri Lankan domestic T20 matches.
After Deepak Chahar’s absence, Milne’s injury could be a big blow for CSK. The team is noticeably struggling to gather the momentum, looking at their current pace bowling unit.
Chennai Super Kings take on Mumbai Indians in El Clasico of the IPL
CSK is set to face their traditional rivals Mumbai Indians (MI), tonight, at Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. It is going to be an interesting contest as CSK has won merely a match in the IPL 2022.
Their only victory came out against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), after losing the first four matches. A stellar show from Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa aided CSK to succeed in the contest, that night. Currently, CSK is in 9th position in the points table.
Mumbai Indians (MI), on the other hand, placed at the bottommost position in the points table, are yet to win a match in the tournament. They have lost all of their six matches played, in the tournament so far. With a relatively similar problem as CSK, MI has been incredibly inconsistent with their bowling performances. Correspondingly, the batting unit too will have to do something elite to earn the first win of the season.
