Dashing former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has announced his exit from Kings XI Punjab franchise. The 40-year old has been associated with the franchise for a period of five years since 2014.
While their entire 2014 campaign was lauded for Maxwell”s brutality and Bailey”s captaincy, Sehwag”s role shouldn”t be forgotten. His century against Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 2 still remains as the only reason behind their progress to finals. That was the only season where they qualified till the last stage of the tournament.
In the last season, though the side won the initial matches with ease, their inconsistent bowling costed them a lot as they were knocked out during the second half. KL Rahul, their costliest buy did wonders for the season and it was one of the biggest positives they can take.
In his Twitter handle, Virender Sehwagposted “All good things must come to an end and I”ve had a wonderful time at Kings 11 Punjab, for 2 seasons as a player and 3 as a mentor. My association with Kings 11 comes to an end and I am thankful for the time I have had here and wish the team all the very best for the times ahead.”
