Woes continue to exist for the kangaroos as they failed to win an ODI series at their own backyard against the Proteas. The batting unit as well the bowlers weren”t able to maintain the stability and it, in turn, provided them with a bitter experience.
Australian bowler John Hastings has announced his retirement from all formats of the game with immediate effect. It is to be noted that he had already admitted that his health is not permitting him to hit the nets anymore. The 33-year old said that he isn”t ready anymore due to a lung infection and this made him make a decision.
Hastings last played an international game against trans-Tasmanian rivals in the ICC champions trophy 2017. While he already quit the Internationals due to the same reason, he kept on playing the shortest format of the game. However, days passed and he said earlier this year that he is going to take an indefinite break from cricket.
“There was just a lot of grey area surrounding long-term health, whether it was causing any damage, and if there was any potential to have a fatal bleed on the field. They just really couldn”t say yes or no. And I wasn”t happy with that. It was a pretty tough little period, the last five or six months, but I”ve come to terms with it now, and I”m pretty comfortable with where it”s all at,” said Hastings to the Australian daily Sydney Morning Herald.
Hastings represented Australia in 39 International games in all three formats. Adding fifty wickets to his bag, he also achieved the career-best rank of 18 in ODI”s. His absence will surely have an impact for the kangaroos who aren”t having a good run in all three formats of the game. After a dismal tour of UAE, they had similar fortunes against Proteas and the side is looking to tick the boxes against India.
