Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Akash Deep has revealed that the 2011 World Cup-winning six by Mahendra Singh Dhoni stirred interest in him about the game. He added that the likes of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli were like superheroes for him.
Akash Deep was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for 20 lakhs at the IPL 2022 auctions. He got an opportunity to play alongside one of his idols, Virat Kohli. The young pacer took five wickets in as many matches in the tournament, however, the fans and the experts were impressed with his ability.
Speaking to Indian Express, Akash Deep expressed that his favorite cricket memory was MS Dhoni’s 2011 World Cup six. He added that sharing the dressing with Virat Kohli felt like a dream. Akash deep stated,
That World Cup moment stirred interest in me. As a kid, when we used to watch the likes of Kohli and Dhoni on TV, I used to think whether I would ever get a chance to meet them in my life. In my mind, they were like superheroes. And from the place I come from, in my wildest imagination, I never thought that someday, I would end up sharing the dressing room with Kohli. Sab sapna hai (Everything is a dream).”

Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Akash Deep made his IPL debut against the Punjab Kings this year. He was handed the debut cap by Virat Kohli. Akash expressed that it was an emotional moment to receive the cap from the veteran cricketer. The youngster also revealed Virat Kohli’s conversation with him while handing him the cap. He said,
“I was shocked that he knows where I am from, my journey, struggle, and everything. While giving me the cap, he said, ‘You deserve to be here. Just keep doing what you have done in the past. Just enjoy yourself, stick to your process.’ It was a very emotional moment.”
