South Africa suffered a big blow ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Dwaine Pretorius, who was earlier ruled out of the ODI series after suffering a fracture to his left thumb during the third T20I against India in Indore, has now been ruled out of the mega T20 event. Meanwhile, Marco Jansen, who was a part of the reserves, has now replaced him in the 15-man squad.
The 22-year-old, Jansen was added to the ODI squad and now he will also join the side for their all-important campaign at the World Cup in Australia. However, Lizaad Williams has instead been named a reserve for the upcoming marquee event; he will be accompanied by Bjorn Fortuin and Andile Phehlukwayo as well.
South Africa squad for T20 WC: Temba Bavuma (c), Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Wayne Parnell, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Rilee Rossouw, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs.
South Africa suffer ODI series defeat against India
On the other hand, the South Africa squad have recently played against India’s second-string squad and lost the series by 1-2. However, after the Proteas won the opening ODI of the series in Lucknow, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side bounced back well to level the series in Ranchi.
Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan helped them to seal the deal with the bat. On Tuesday, October 11, they gave a stunning performance in the series decider and won the series. Shikhar Dhawan applauded the young cricketers for doing well against a top South African side. Speaking at the post-match presentation, the stand-in captain said:
“I am proud of the boys, the way they played in the series. The way they carried the responsibility and showed maturity. Would like to thank the support staff. We showed a lot of character in the first game, we dropped a few catches, but we never really put pressure on ourselves.”
“We tried to stick to the process. I am enjoying the journey, I will try to keep performing well for my team. The boys showed great character on such tough batting pitches. The bowlers were clinical today,” he added.
