A Non-Bailable Warrant Enforced Against Former Indian Pacer Prashant Vaidya: Reports

In Nagpur on Wednesday, January 31, a non-bailable warrant was enforced against former Indian pacer Prashant Vaidya in a case related to bounced cheques.

The 56-year-old Vaidya, who participated in four ODIs for India from 1995 to 1996, was once regarded as a promising fast bowler and had trained at the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai before his cricket career gradually faded away.

According to news agency PTI, the ex-cricketer was presented before a court, and he was subsequently released on a surety bond. Inspector Vitthalsingh Rajput from Bajaj Nagar police station stated in the report that Vaidya purportedly bought steel from a local trader and issued a bounced cheque.

The trader requested a new payment, which Vaidya allegedly declined to fulfill. Following this, the trader took legal action, prompting the court to release a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the former fast bowler due to his failure to attend court hearings, as mentioned by the official.

The Times of India reported that the ex-cricketer was released on a surety bond of ₹5,000. Currently, Vaidya serves as the head of the cricket development committee at the Vidarbha Cricket Association.

Regarding Prashant Vaidya’s brief tenure in international cricket

With considerable anticipation, Vaidya made his debut for India in an ODI against Australia in Dunedin in February 1995. He achieved figures of 1-36 in seven overs, dismissing the renowned opener David Boon for 32 off 54.

India emerged victorious in the match, securing a five-wicket win while successfully chasing a target of 251 in 47.5 overs.

In Vaidya’s subsequent match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup in Sharjah, the right-arm pacer showcased his skill, securing figures of 2-41 from 8.4 overs and dismissing Akram Khan (24) and Anisur Rahman (2).

Bangladesh was bowled out for 163 in 44.4 overs, a target India comfortably chased down in 27.5 overs, losing only one wicket. His third ODI, also in Sharjah, was against Pakistan.

Vaidya claimed the wicket of Saeed Anwar for 44, finishing with figures of 1-55 in nine overs. Despite his efforts, the arch-rivals emerged victorious by 38 runs, with Aamer Sohail’s impressive knock of 105 off 127.

The ex-cricketer concluded his international career with India in a match against South Africa in Sharjah in April 1996. Unfortunately, he remained wicketless and conceded 42 runs in six overs. The Proteas dominated the one-sided encounter, defeating India by a margin of 80 runs.

Vaidya’s one-day career came to an end, having secured four wickets with an average of 43.50 and an economy rate of 5.67.
