Rishabh Pant’s cricketing journey in recent years has been marked by incredible highs and unfortunate injuries. It all began with his horrific car accident in December 2022, which left him with a dislocated right knee, as well as injuries to his ankle, wrist, and back.
His recovery was long and demanding, keeping him away from professional cricket for over a year. Yet, his triumphant return in IPL 2024 was a testament to his resilience and fighting spirit, earning him admiration from fans and teammates alike.
Just as he seemed to regain form and fitness, a fractured thumb during the ongoing England series in 2025 dealt him another blow. Pant suffered the injury while keeping wickets in the third Test at Lord’s, although he continued to play as a batter. Despite the discomfort, he remained committed to contributing to the team.
Fractured Toe During 4th Test
In the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Pant faced another unfortunate setback. While batting on Day 1, he attempted a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes, only to be struck on the right toe. Initially, he was forced to retire hurt on 37 runs. A scan later confirmed that he had sustained a metatarsal fracture, ruling him out for at least six weeks. This not only eliminated his chances of playing the remainder of the Test but also sidelined him from the fifth and final match of the series at The Oval.
Pant’s injury came at a time when the Indian squad was already grappling with fitness issues. Key players like Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep, and Nitish Kumar Reddy were also unavailable due to their respective injuries.
A Symbol of Grit and Passion
Despite being in visible pain, Pant showed immense courage by walking back to bat on Day 2 of the Test, drawing a standing ovation from the crowd. His decision to continue playing despite the injury highlighted his commitment to the team and his never-give-up attitude.
Widely praised by fans and former cricketers, Pant has become a symbol of resilience in Indian cricket. Though his current injury rules him out for the near future, his bravery on the field continues to inspire many. Pant’s journey reflects not just physical endurance, but the mental strength that defines a true sportsman.
