Former Team India opener Aakash Chopra has suggested Indian citizenship for Australia batsman Steve Smith after his prolific run-scoring spree against the Men in Blues. Smith played a fine knock of 105 runs as the host posted a mammoth total of 375 runs which proved to be enough for the visitors at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Meanwhile, Smith entered the ODI series against Virat Kohli-ked India on the back of a forgettable IPL season in the UAE. But, the talismanic run-scorer rediscovered his form immediately at the international level as he kicked off the series with a record hundred.
Give Steve Smith Indian citizenship – Aakash Chopra
After David Warner and Aaron Finch provided a rollicking start, Steve Smith took the game completely out of India’s hands. After a slow start, the former skipper breaks loose to take the Indian bowlers to the cleaners. He contributed with 105 runs from 66 balls including 11 boundaries and four towering sixes.

As Steve Smith launched a carnage against Indian bowlers, Aakash Chopra hilariously suggested that considering his fondness for India, Smith should be given Indian citizenship.
“Since Smith loves India so much, might as well offer him the citizenship. Inka Aadhaar Card banvaiye please. Ominous signs for the entire tour,” Aakash Chopra tweeted.

Meanwhile, chasing a mammoth total, India finished 66 runs short. After Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan got off to a brilliant start, Australia pull things back to crawl back into the game.
Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya gave India hope in an improbable chase. They put on 146 and caused a bit of a flutter. The injury to Marcus Stoinis made things a bit more interesting as well. But then Adam Zampa put his hand up and bowled a match-winning spell, taking out both Dhawan and Pandya and winning the game for his side.
