Australian skipper Aaron Finch will undergo surgery to treat his knee injury. He is confident of attaining fitness before the ICC T20 World Cup, which will take place later this year.
Finch aggravated his cartilage injury playing against West Indies in the fifth and final T20 International on, July 17. The opener has returned back to Australia and is under quarantine in a Melbourne Hotel for two weeks.
“I had a little injury just doing a fielding session before I left – I’ve never had any knee problems – and it just started to get a bit sore. The more that we trained and played, stopping and starting, turning, that kind of thing was causing it some issues. So I had a couple of scans in the West Indies and there was a little bit of cartilage, a bit of meniscus damage,” Aaron Finch told SEN Radio as quoted by Cricket Australia.
“Hopefully (it will be) a quick cleanout once I’m out of quarantine and it’ll have me back up and running in plenty of time for the T20 World Cup,” he added.

Aaron Finch was ruled out of the remainder of the series against West Indies as well as the Bangladesh tour. The rest of the Australian squad headed to Bangladesh for a five-match T20 series, which will begin next week.
“I’m extremely disappointed to be heading home. This was considered the best course of action rather than traveling to Bangladesh, not being able to play, and losing that recovery time,” Finch earlier said to Cricket Australia.
Alex Carey led the Australian team in the one-day international series against West Indies, in Finch’s absence. However, Carey is not a regular starter in Australia’s T20I team. Wicket-keeper Matthew Wade is likely to lead the Australian team against Bangladesh.
