Abhimanyu Easwaran And Harshit Rana Selected For India’s Squad For The 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Bengal captain Abhimanyu Easwaran and Delhi pacer Harshit Rana have been named in India’s squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, announced on October 25.

Easwaran received his call-up due to his strong domestic performances, scoring multiple centuries for India B in the Duleep Trophy and the Rest of India in the Irani Cup. Harshit Rana, who has been part of Team India’s squads since the Sri Lanka tour, gets his first Test call-up.

Additionally, Andhra and Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has also been included after recently debuting in the T20I series against Bangladesh. In a separate update, Jasprit Bumrah has been named vice-captain, amid speculation that Rohit Sharma may miss one of the first two Tests of the five-match series.

India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy:

Rohit Sharma (C), Rishabh Pant (wk), Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, R Jadeja, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Prasidh Krishna, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (wk), R Ashwin, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar.

In addition to the 18 players selected for the tour, Team India has named three backup pacers: Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, and Khaleel Ahmed, who will travel with the team.

Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav Excluded from Squad for 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Team India all-rounder Axar Patel and bowler Kuldeep Yadav have been excluded from the squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The reason for Axar’s absence has not been specified.

According to a media advisory from the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), Kuldeep will be referred to the BCCI Centre of Excellence for ongoing monitoring and treatment of his chronic left groin issue.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins on November 22, with the series opener at Optus Stadium, Perth. The tour concludes with a New Year’s Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) starting January 3.
