In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to postpone the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for an indefinite period. Notably, the tournament was scheduled to commence from March 29. Despite no guarantee on the future of the tournament, Delhi Capitals cricketer Alex Carey has confirmed his participation along with a number of the overseas stars.

Carey made rapid progress in the Australia jersey last year in the limited-overs playing some breathtaking knocks including in the ICC World Cup 2019 where they lost to England in the semifinals to bow out of the mega event. Since then, Alex Carey has been on the radar of many IPL franchises. Eventually, the Capitals secured his services for a whopping sum of Rs 2.4 crores.

Excited for his first stint in the popular T20 event, Carey is hopeful that both the IPL and ICC T20 World Cup 2020 which is scheduled to take place later this year in Australia will happen with a little tweaker in the schedule. Moreover, the wicket-keeper batsman also expressed that he is enjoying the lockdown with his family.

“At this stage, it’s looking likely that might not go ahead. It would be nice to be in Delhi playing cricket – it was my first time selected to be part of the IPL. I’m still really positive. I’m sure the world will move in the way we want it to, and there’s still that hope later in the season the IPL will go ahead and the (men’s T20) World Cup (scheduled for Australia), but we’ll wait and see,” Carey said to cricket.com.au.

“I look at it as I’m healthy, safe, and getting to spend a lot of time with my family. It was a big couple of years on the cricket field, so to have to spend time at home is quite nice,” he added.

Meanwhile, along with Alex Carey, Australian cricketers David Warner, Steve Smith, and Pat Cummins have also confirmed their availability for the cash-rich league.
