The auction for the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League is set to be conducted on Monday, February 20, 2017 in the presence of Richard Madley, the IPL auctioneer.
There will be a total of 352 players up for grabs & on auction throughout the day. From this 352, Indian players are 227 while the rest are overseas players. 140 cricketers & including 44 overseas have been retained by the 8 franchises.
Jharkhand right-hander Ishank Jaggi has been included in the auction pool as one of the late entrants. Some of the other late entrants are former India U19 pacer Monu Kumar, Chaitanya Bishnoi, Kshitij Sharma to name a few.

Sunrisers Hyderabad – Rs 20.9 crore
Kolkata Knight Riders – Rs 19.75 crore
Rising Pune Supergiants – Rs 19.1 crore
Gujarat Lions – Rs 14.35 crore
Royal Challengers Bangalore – Rs 12.825 crore
Mumbai Indians – Rs 11.555 crore
Ishant Sharma, the Indian pacer has the highest base price of Rs.2 cr among all Indian players. The overseas player with the highest base price includes Englishmen Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan & Chris Woakes; Australian fast bowlers Mitchell Johnson & Pat Cummins; & Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews.
Today Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc has pulled out of this year”s Indian Premier League season, ending his association with his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.
MS Dhoni has been removed as captain of the Indian Premier League franchise Rising Pune Supergiants & the franchise announced that Australia skipper Steve Smith will take over the reins from Dhoni.
The rules that franchises have to follow as far as the auction is concerned:
- Bidding for all players starts at base price, the team has to raise the paddle & in the end the team bidding the highest for a player, takes him.
- If no team raises the paddle for the player, then he goes in the unsold players lot.
- The unsold players again return for auction in the end.
- A team can buy maximum 27 players including 9 international players.
- Maximum 76 players including 28 overseas players can be bought in the auction by all the teams.

This edition of IPL will also see some big overseas players leaving the tournament in the middle as they are scheduled to play for their national sides. Bangladesh, Ireland and New Zealand players are also bound to play Tri-nation ODI series from May 12 onwards. South Africa are due to play two warm-up games, on May 19 and May 21, before playing three ODIs against England from May 24 to May 29.
West Indies will play against Pakistan from April 7 to May 15. England play two more ODIs against Ireland on May 5 and 7. Cricket South Africa & England and Wales Cricket Board are reportedly considering pulling their players out early for preparation of the Champions Trophy.
