Emerging pacer Anshul Kamboj made a strong impression on Day 2 of the 1st unofficial Test against the England Lions, building on his recent IPL stint with Chennai Super Kings. He outshone fellow bowlers Mukesh Kumar and Harshit Rana, picking up the key wicket of Ben McKinney and consistently troubling the opposition.
With India A players aiming to secure a place in the senior team’s upcoming five-match series against England, Kamboj’s sharp bowling and ability to deliver breakthroughs are helping him stand out from the competition.
India A Posts Mammoth Total with Karun’s Double Ton
Earlier in the day, India A showcased their batting prowess by amassing a formidable total of 557. Karun Nair led the charge with a brilliant knock of 204 off 281 deliveries, including 26 fours and a six. Resuming the day at 409/3, Karun, who started on 186, completed his double century with a stylish boundary over covers off pacer Eddie Jack.
He shared a vital 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Dhruv Jurel, who narrowly missed out on a century, getting dismissed for 94. Though Karun was eventually caught behind off Zaman Akhter after reaching his milestone, his innings provided a solid foundation for India A.
England Lions Fight Back After Early Setbacks
Despite losing early momentum to India A’s dominant batting, the England Lions showed resistance with the bat by reaching 237/2 at stumps on Day 2. Although the visitors had a massive first-innings deficit to overcome, their top-order managed to consolidate after Kamboj’s early breakthrough.
However, the loss of Karun triggered a mini-collapse in the India A batting line-up, as the Lions’ pacers made swift inroads. Still, India A’s strong total and early wicket-taking form, especially from Kamboj, have given them a significant edge going into the following days of the unofficial Test.
