Dhoni commenced his One Day International (ODI) journey against Bangladesh in 2004 but encountered a disappointing start as he was dismissed for a golden duck.
However, he went on to amass an impressive total of 10,773 ODI runs at an average of 50.57, including ten centuries and 73 half-centuries.
His unbeaten knock of 183 runs against Sri Lanka in Jaipur remains the highest score by a wicket-keeper in the history of 50-over cricket. Moreover, Dhoni contributed significantly in Test cricket, accumulating 4,876 runs before bidding farewell to the format in 2014.
He also achieved 829 dismissals as a wicket-keeper, placing him third on the all-time list behind Mark Boucher and Adam Gilchrist.
Throughout his career, Dhoni’s leadership skills and astute decision-making have been instrumental in guiding the Indian cricket team to numerous victories.
His calm demeanour, even under pressure, earned him the admiration of fans worldwide. Dhoni’s achievements extend beyond the international arena; his captaincy for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has yielded tremendous success, with the team securing five championship titles.
The impact of his remarkable career and charismatic persona has solidified his status as an icon of the game.
As MS Dhoni celebrates his birthday, his fans reflect on his extraordinary contributions to Indian cricket and express their gratitude for his remarkable achievements.
